Data Analyst Resume Example: Sections and Sample Bullets

MineResume · 11 min read · Updated 2026-09-06

Analyst hiring managers look for evidence you can pull data, clean it, and explain it. Tools matter (SQL, Excel, Power BI, Python) but so does a sentence about the decision the work supported.

Suggested sections

  • Summary: domain (ops, marketing, finance) + tools + years or project count.
  • Skills: SQL, Excel, visualization tool, maybe Python/pandas.
  • Experience or internships.
  • Projects: Kaggle-style work only if you can talk through the data and the question.
  • Education and certificates (Google Data Analytics, etc.) with the year.

Sample bullets

  • Wrote SQL joins across orders and customers to build a weekly delayed-shipment list for operations.
  • Built an Excel model with pivot tables for monthly spend by vendor; flagged two duplicate invoice series.
  • Published a Power BI dashboard of ticket volume by hour so the support lead could staff evenings.

Portfolio

Link a GitHub or a public dashboard only if the data is public or anonymized. Do not paste employer data into a public repo. On the resume, one URL is enough.

Template choice

Professional Sidebar works well because skills sit where a screener looks first. Keep chart images off the PDF; describe the dashboard in a bullet instead.
