Keep LinkedIn and Your Resume Consistent
MineResume · 8 min read · Updated 2026-09-06
Recruiters open LinkedIn after the PDF. If titles, employers, or years disagree, they assume one of the documents is sloppy. The resume can be shorter and more tailored; it should not invent a different history.
Match these fields
- Company names and job titles (same spelling).
- Start and end years. Months can be slightly less precise on LinkedIn, but not contradictory.
- Degree name and institution.
What can differ
LinkedIn can hold a longer About section, more posts, and extra projects. The resume should keep only the jobs that fit this application. You can drop an old part-time role from the PDF and still leave it on LinkedIn.
URL on the resume
Add your LinkedIn URL in the MineResume header. Use a custom slug if you have one. Test that the PDF link opens. Do not put the URL only as a blue word “LinkedIn” with no actual href.
