How to Write a Resume With No Experience

You do not need a long job history to write a useful resume. Recruiters scanning entry-level applications look for proof that you can learn, finish work, and communicate clearly. MineResume’s Classic and Compact templates keep that proof easy to read.

Lead with education and proof of work

Put education near the top. Include degree or course name, school, dates, and one or two relevant modules or a GPA only if it is strong. Then add projects, internships, volunteering, or campus roles. Treat a finished project like a job: what you built, the tools you used, and the result.

• Summary: two or three lines about the role you want and the skills you already use.
• Education: program, institution, dates, notable coursework.
• Projects: 3–5 bullets each, starting with a verb (built, researched, organized).
• Skills: tools and languages you can actually demonstrate.
• Optional: languages, certifications, or a short volunteer role.

What to avoid

• Fake job titles or inflated internships.
• A photo unless the industry expects one.
• Tables, text boxes, and multi-column designs that break in ATS parsers.
• Objectives like “seeking a challenging position” with no skills attached.

Example summary

Computer science graduate with coursework in data structures and a GitHub project that scrapes public datasets and charts them in Python. Looking for a junior analyst or intern role where I can support reporting and automation.

Sample project bullets

• Built a Python script that pulled public weather CSVs and plotted weekly averages for a 90-day window.
• Designed a poster for a college fest: brief, print specs, and a shared folder of final PDFs for the committee.
• Tutored two classmates in first-year accounts for six weeks; kept a simple error log of topics they missed.
